What is Sunrise on the Reaping?
Sunrise on the Reaping is Suzanne Collins' Hunger Games novel (published March 2025) telling the story of the 50th Hunger Games — the Second Quarter Quell — won by 16-year-old Haymitch Abernathy of District 12. Because of the Quell twist, twice as many tributes were reaped: two boys and two girls from each district, 48 in all. The film adaptation, directed by Francis Lawrence, reaches theaters on November 20, 2026.
This preset recreates that field in our battle simulator: the full 48-tribute roster with the named tributes from the novel, Career packs from Districts 1, 2, and 4, and the Newcomer allies. Run it straight, or edit any tribute first — the odds don't have to stay in Haymitch's favor.
Notable tributes of the Second Quarter Quell
| Tribute | District | Known for |
|---|---|---|
| Haymitch Abernathy | District 12 | The victor — cunning, rebellious, and secretly trying to break the arena itself |
| Maysilee Donner | District 12 | Sharp-tongued merchant girl, deadly with a blowgun; original owner of the mockingjay pin |
| Wyatt Callow | District 12 | An oddsmaker's son who calculated every tribute's chances — including his own |
| Ampert Latier | District 3 | Beetee's young son, reaped as punishment; organizer of the Newcomers alliance |
| Silka Sharp | District 1 | Hulking Career and axe specialist; Haymitch's final opponent |
| Panache Barker | District 1 | Brutal, arrogant Career who drew first blood at the bloodbath |
| Maritte | District 4 | A Career who turned her weapons on the Gamemakers themselves |
| Ringina | District 7 | Axe-wielding leader among the Newcomer allies |
Louella McCoy of District 12 died before the Games began; the Capitol's stand-in "Lou Lou" fills her slot in the arena — and in this preset.

Frequently asked questions
Is Sunrise on the Reaping about Haymitch?
Yes. Sunrise on the Reaping follows 16-year-old Haymitch Abernathy of District 12 through the 50th Hunger Games — the Second Quarter Quell — set 24 years before Katniss's Games. It reveals the true, censored version of how he became a victor.
Why were there 48 tributes in the 50th Hunger Games?
The 50th Games were the Second Quarter Quell, a special edition held every 25 years. Its twist forced each district to send double the tributes — two boys and two girls — putting 48 children in the arena instead of the usual 24.
How did Haymitch win his Hunger Games?
In the final showdown, Silka Sharp of District 1 threw her axe at Haymitch near the arena's edge; he dodged, and it rebounded off the perimeter force field into her head. The novel reveals he also spent the Games secretly trying to sabotage the arena itself — a rebellion the Capitol cut from the broadcast.
What was the arena like in the 50th Hunger Games?
A deceptively beautiful meadow-and-mountain landscape: golden Cornucopia, songbirds, and flowers — but the water, fruit, and plants were poisonous, the wildlife was engineered to kill, and the mountain was a volcano that erupted mid-Games.
Who is Maysilee Donner?
Maysilee Donner was one of Haymitch's fellow District 12 tributes and his fiercest ally. She was the original owner of the mockingjay pin that eventually reached Katniss, and the aunt of Madge Undersee in the original trilogy.
When does the Sunrise on the Reaping movie come out?
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping opens in US theaters on November 20, 2026, directed by Francis Lawrence, starring Joseph Zada as young Haymitch, McKenna Grace as Maysilee Donner, and Whitney Peak as Lenore Dove, with Ralph Fiennes as President Snow.
